GADEN JANGTSE MONASTERY

The original Gaden Jangtse Monastery was established in 1409, in Lhasa, Tibet by the great teacher and scholar, Je Tsong Khapa. It was the second largest monastery in Tibet, at one point housing 7,000 monks. Nothing of that monastery remains today.

Since the Chinese invasion of Tibet in 1959, Tibet’s Buddhist Temples were virtually all destroyed and the very treasures of Tibetan heritage were confiscated. The communist Chinese invasion of Tibet is one of the worst human rights violations in modern times more than one million Tibetan’s killed, thousands of monasteries looted and destroyed, ancient scriptures burned, the language itself outlawed.

A great exodus has been taking place as Tibetans flee persecution within their native land and seek sanctuary in India. Rebuilding of the monasteries has been made possible by the Indian government through donations of land since 1959.

A new Gaden Jangtse Monastery was built in South Central India for about 300 monks. Now the same monastery serves over 2,600 monks and growing with the continued increase in Tibetan refuges looking for education and religious freedom.

This tour represents efforts to expound the profound heritage and to generate funds specifically for food and educational supplies.

Many of these monks will spend their entire lives at the monastery, working for the benefit of all sentient beings.

Please assist their fundraising efforts through the GADEN JANGTSE MONK’S TOUR by contacting us, so that this irreplaceable tradition may continue, flourish and benefit all sentient beings.
